CHAPTER 4

The Divided Monarchy: Israel (931-722 B.C.E.)

With the death of Solomon in 931 B.C.E. and the emergence of two Hebrew states, Israel and Judah, we enter a period for which there is stronger evidence supporting the historical validity of many portions of the Bible. This was a period when Egypt and the major kingdoms of Mesopotamia exerted great power. The arena for this action was the Fertile Crescent.
