Jewish History Underground: 586-198 B.C.E.

From 586 B.C.E. to the outbreak of the Maccabean revolt against the Syrian Seleucids in 167 B.C.E. – with the exception of the Jewish military colony at Elephantine on Egypt's southern border – there are no Jewish military exploits to record; there was no independent Jewish state. A dilemma confronts the military historian.
